Jeremy LaLonde Talks Internet Fundraising and ‘Sex After Kids’

There are plenty of movies out there about dating, about getting married, and about breaking up. What there aren’t, are a lot of movies about what comes next. How do you have a relationship, especially a sexual one, once the magic wears off, and you have to deal with screaming children? How do you keep the spark alive after your kids have grown, and moved out? And how do you date as a single parent? These are the kinds of questions asked and answered in Jeremy LaLonde’s new comedy, Sex After Kids (fitting title, no?).

The film premiered last year at the Santa Barbara Film Festival, and is gearing up to hit other big fests around North America. It has also been featured more than once on IndieWire (as project of the week, then month, and most recently as a nominee for Project of the Year). I had the wonderful opportunity to chat with LaLonde about the project, its success thus far, and about filmmaking in the 21st century.

GRAPEVINE, Texas — The Boy Scouts of America voted on Thursday to end its controversial policy banning gay kids and teens from joining one of the nation’s most popular youth organizations, ditching membership guidelines that had roiled the group in recent years.

Still a ban on gay leaders though. New slogan: “We’re now 50% less homophobic!”

The funniest and most talented comedienne I think, including people like Carol Burnett who are great, you know, and Gilda Radner who was magnificent, but nobody — listen to me, David Bianculli — nobody could approach the magnificence and wonder of Madeline Kahn. She was really a great gift to us all. … I saw art [in her], not just funny. But I saw a person who was gifted with art. She’s the only one who actually could have worked in opera as an opera singer, as a coloratura. She was that talented or I think she could have worked as a longshoreman in New Jersey. I don’t think there’s anything that Madeline Kahn couldn’t do.”
